Do you know what is the superiority of this indoor bike trainer stand?
The CycleOps SuperMagneto Pro is an ideal indoor trainer for the multiple-cyclist household. The Flexible Power Curve Technology offers four distinctly different power curves by changing the location of the four resistance magnets as they move away from the trainer s axis, resistance increases. Easy allows you to warm up before a workout. The Road setting offers a sharper resistance curve to more convincingly mimic road conditions. The Interval setting features a sharp contrast in resistance between low and high speeds, making intervals harder and recovery easier. Mountain simulates riding a World Cup course with the resistance of steep, high wattage climbs followed by the skill-focused recovery of a descent. Each flywheel is individually balanced for reduced bearing wear and concentrates its mass at the flywheel s outer edge to maximize inertia a pause in your pedal stroke won t cause the unit to come to a stop. With the Pro Series frame you get a wider base to back up your biggest efforts, the ability to level the unit, one-sided installation for quick set up and removal and includes the Realrides Race Day DVD. This one has a rattle between 16-17mph regardless of the setting. It s noted in a few other reviews. Other than that the resistance curve is closer to linear than progressive in feel. If you are pedaling away at say 20mph it feels fairly effortless to push up to 28mph for a bit whereas cycling on the road you get exponential resistance from the wind requiring quite a bit more energy to make that leap. I do think the laws of resistance do kick in and over time you end up averaging maybe only slightly faster than real world road biking with no wind but due to the flatter resistance curve although not linear . However I purchased both the Super Magneto Pro SMP and the Jet Fluid Pro JFP to choose the one I liked better. I liked the Idea of the SMP with the four settings but if you look at the resistance curves between the two in the linked photo you will see that the JFP actually covers all spectrums with its more parabolic resistance curve making the different settings irrelevant. I only discovered this after ordering the SMP and feeling like it was a bit linear on the resistance than I had hoped. I didn t like the easy spin up to higher speeds as that takes the fun out of pushing harder and digging deep to get that few more miles an hour faster. This trainer to me felt boring to use as it probably should its a trainer right ... as it turns out the JFP wasn t boring at all. It mimicked that lively feel to riding faster, digging deep and pushing harder. With all that said though it is a solid trainer. The stand is great and the one I got came with the new knob to tighten the unit against the wheel. Much better than the old one. The easy setting on this might be ok for young weaker riders but it will give you a misguided view of your actual performance, as will the road setting as well. Refer to the resistance curve chart to see what I mean. Its very accurate as to what to expect when comparing the two in regards to energy put in vs speed. The higher speeds of the SMP also gives me the thought that it will wear your tires quicker than the JFP. Its also worth noting that both the ones I got were missing the DVD that every video about CycleOps trainers says is in the box.Read full 37 customer reviews for CycleOps SuperMagneto Pro Trainer at Amazon Reviews
